Abandoned Farm

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 13 February 2012 in Landscape & Rural.

This was an old farm that I passed by outside of Frederick. The barn was falling down and above it on a hill was an old farmhouse that was also in various stages of decay.

Even though the building is in decline everything seems in harmony with the landscape somehow. It seems a real shame to see towns and buildings just left to disintergrate. I saw small towns in America basically just turning into ghost towns as you have shown in some of your photos Elaine.

Ideal place for shooting ! I would love to visit such a place. A fantastic playground for me !

@Florence: Mine too! I wanted to get down there but there was an old dirt road with a bridge and the bridge had been washed out. I might go back and try to figure out another way.

The trees of this composition really make this barn a standout. It's amazing how much the patches of green grass stand out in this landscape.

Comparatively rare to see a place like this surrendered to the elements in the UK . . land is so scarce that anything vacant gets snapped up in no time !

I'd like to wander around there. Some of my favourite sites do enter suchs places.
Not always without danger but thrilling to see if there are leftovers for a photo.
