Cell Block

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 2 September 2012 in Miscellaneous.

The original design of the building was for seven one-story cell blocks, but by the time cell block three was completed, the prison was already over capacity. From then on, all the other cell blocks were two floors.
I spent a morning touring Eastern State Penitentiary. It was an interesting visit but I also found it to be quite depressing.

You have captured the mood well here Elaine. I wonder how many prisoners were successfully rehabilitated from here?

@Curly: I could not find any specific statistics, but a reference on Wikipedia states that their rehab program was moderately successful, whatever that means.

Terrific shot you have captured the awful feeling of the place shooting through the wire.

I like how you used the wire barrier as a screen for showing this interior.
Well done.

One of my favorites in this series. ALl of the shapes and textures are wonderful and the angle of the shot is excellent.

Nice shot (HDR, I assume) with both the near mesh and the receding cells all in perfect focus.

The wires, doors and all that cold cement creates a most daunting atmosphere! A very impressive photo!
