Visiting the Capitol

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 3 July 2014 in Architecture.

Tourists visiting the US Capitol. The grounds were full of people getting the place ready for the July 4th celebration. The flag is flying at half mast in memory of Senator Howard Baker.

I suspect this celebration will be done in style. Since I've never been to the capitol yet, I have to guess.

3 Jul 2014 2:47pm

@Don: They always do a really nice job with the fireworks, with the view of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial in the background but it is always so very crowded and usually very hot and humid! I have only gone down there 3 times for the occasion.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Stunning PoV captured of the Capitol!! So appropriate for the holiday. I didn't realize they were already done with the dome's renovation. Or is this from a previous year? 5*****

4 Jul 2014 12:43am

@Steven: They are just starting. There is some fencing set up on the north side and temporary trailers. They should be starting soon and I think it will be for 2 years or so.
