The Look

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 6 August 2015 in Sport & Recreation.

The look on his face! I took over 200 pictures but most of them came out one big blur. They moved around really fast. It was hard to keep up.

The blur of movement from their gloves creates a great action shot. At the same time we can see the look of concentration in their faces. Not easy shooting in low light like this!

Great shot Elaine - Is that your son? What I would do is put that sucker on Auto Iso and set the focus to AFC or AFC, and set your shutter speed to about 1600 ...try that - that;s what I do with Baseball and it stops the ball every time :-)

But I also agree that the blur is way more dramatic :-)

Gives you an appreciation for those old press photographers with their Speed Graphics. I was at a horse jumping event once and took care to experiment with different shutter speeds. 1/125 looked great in my little review window, so I shot the whole event there. Turns out at full size view, every shot had just a bit too much blur to use. Threw the whole batch out.

Today's is a little worse than yesterday's, but both are not that bad. Gotta boost up that ISO - but I don't know where your camera's "ugly" point sets in.
