Cape May Lighthouse

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 9 September 2015 in Architecture.

The Cape May Light house is located at the tip of Cape May, New Jersey. It was built in 1859 and was automated in 1946, and continues operation to this day. It is the third fully documented lighthouse to be built at Cape May Point. The first was built in 1823; the second in 1847. The exact locations of the first two lighthouses are now underwater due to erosion.

"There are moments when time stands still. You hope it will wait for you."

I like how you composed this image of the lighthouse. A fine, detailed image of this tall structure. Well done.

I am looking at the people and thinking how small they are compared to that lighthouse... it's a biggy! It must be a long trek to the top! Interesting info too Elaine.... I enjoyed!!

@Carol: I was right under the lighthouse and it was really very tall. This was taken from the ferry.

Beautifully composed against that lovely sky Elaine, and I have to agree with Barbara there is something compelling about lighthouses.
