I had the opportunity to visit Glenstone Museum located on 200 acres in Potomac, MD. Glenstone was founded by Mitchell and Emily Rales. Glenstone was built in order to present exhibitions of their collection of modern and contemporary art and installations of outdoor sculpture. This sculpture by Tony Smith is called Smug (1973). He was an American sculptor and was often considered as a pioneering figure in American Minimalist sculpture.

"There are moments when time stands still. You hope it will wait for you."

Fascinating to look at this in the context of Tony Smith's other similar works. As is said out there "Tony Smith, a gaunt, bewhiskered Irishman with an indefatigable spirit and a raconteurial manner, began in the early 1960s to populate his backyard in South Orange, N.J., with black-painted geometric forms".

@Ronnie 2¢: He was quite prolific. Had a lot of sculptures.

What'an interesting sculpture!
Vacuum and solid volumen, light and shadows, play one against the other in a strong and rhythmical geometric game.
Very good capture, indeed!

That is an interesting sculpture, I wonder what was going through his mind when he made this. It's quite large! Your photo shows it well Elaine, I like!
