Factory Elevator

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 27 March 2017 in Business & Industry.

From the archives. This is the elevator in the Lonaconing Silk Mill in Western Maryland. The mill closed in 1957 and was opened a few years ago for tours. I converted the image to b&w and tried some selective color to the bricks. Not sure if I like it.

Beautifully composed with a very evocative quality. The sack barrow in the lift provides the perfect resting place for the eye

I think we old setting for the elevator is very attractive. I like it in black-and-white. I'm glad it's been reopened for tours.

I think the touches on the brick work add to the decaying feel of the scene.

I love your PoV and processing in B&W!! Ruthie said it right as if the subtle coloring in the brick adds to the decaying feel. Excellent tones and textures throughout!

Some wonderful depth going on in this view, the moment is enduring, would have
been amazing to see the door that once slid over the opening, the minute colour
adds to the mystery !
