Smithsonian Castle

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 19 April 2017 in Architecture.

Very early Saturday morning, my son took me to downtown Washington, DC to visit the Enid A.Haupt Garden which is behind the Smithsonian Castle. The Smithsonian Castle was the original Smithsonian building. It was designed by James Renwick, Jr. and was completed in 1855. It now serves as the visitor center for the Smithsonian Institution and all of its museums. He brought the wheelchair which came in handy! It was so nice to see something different instead of the 4 walls of my house!

A wonderful image of the castle. Interesting to read about this place, and a place I would like to visit. It is great to hear that you have managed to get out with your son's help.

A regal looking building; I've always thought it out-of-place in DC.
