White's Ferry is the last of at least 100 ferries that crossed the Potomac River. It started service in 1817. Today White's Ferry runs continuously from 5 AM until 11 PM daily unless major flooding occurs or there is increased debris or ice. The ferry can hold a maximum of 24 cars in a single trip and takes under 2 minutes to load, 5 minutes to cross, and another 2 minutes to unload, depending on traffic and the height of the river.
