Alley Spring and Grist Mill

Posted by
Elaine Hancock (Olney, United States) on 8 October 2019 in Landscape & Rural.

Alley Spring has an average flow of 81 million gallons per day. Early settlers built a grist mill at the edge of the spring in 1868. In 1894 a steel roller mill was constructed on the same site and still stands today. Steel rollers that ground the grain were powered by a turbine instead of a waterwheel. Alley Spring is located about 5 miles from the town of Eminence.

"There are moments when time stands still. You hope it will wait for you."
Dorothea Lange

What a magnificent look at this old mill. I really like the fast flowing that powered the waterwheel for the mill. A superb image Elaine. 5*

the power of the water is indeed very strong to drive turbines
In France I visited an old chocolate factory; we go through the mill and we see the turbines that were used at the time for the operation of the machines. The sound of the water is impressive
