The light from the outside world was so important to the inmates of these places. A wonderful image Elaine.
I wished I had taken the time to take some photo's of the old large asylum I trained at, the images in my mind of that place evoke some interesting memories, some good, some not so good. One thing I remember is that my patients felt safe there, sometimes more so than out on the streets where they were left when the asylum closed.

@Doug: I sort of felt the same way when I did my nursing rotation for psychiatric nursing in an old mental asylum. I am just glad that the patients aren't treated as they were 50 years ago when I was in school.
